Room 119 was a great place to be this week. We have started learning about our classroom routines and expectations.
The students started off with a math assignment about lots of different things that we do over the summer...how many times does our heart beat over the summer, how much we spent on popsicles over the summer, how long it took us to change clothes over the summer, and many more. I will post a picture next week of our great display on my next post. On Friday, we started looking at patterns in shapes and numbers.
The students also set up their book boxes, choosing books that they want to reading using our I PICK strategy. Ask you child, see if they remember what each letter means. They were so enthusiastic as they went through our extensive class library. Everyone managed to find one, two or three books to read during our read to self part of our literacy program. Our writer's notebooks are being set up and we will start writing during our literacy time this week coming up.
In science, we started looking at Biodiversity and talked about our learning goals. We also started talking about the First nations people and how the Europeans "bumped" into the Americas looking for a trade route to China.
Remember to look at What we are Learning This Week for what will be going on in the classroom this week.
It was an amazing week and I really think its going to be a great year!
Watch out for picture posts during the week.
